Finding Slumberland

This week is another one of those weeks I had to stay back late at office everyday. Been staying back until at least 9pm for the past 3 days, and looks like tomorrow will be no different. Work has been slightly on the crazy side these few months. At least one week in a month I'll have to go through this cycle. And the worst part is, trying to sleep at night. You come home all worn out, can't wait to go to bed and crash. Take a bath, watch some TV while eat some not-so-healthy dinner since it's rather late already (no time to prepare fulsome meals), do the usual beauty regime (facial care), put on the eye-massager and wait to doze off. And guess what, half an hour later you realize your mind is still running on a treadmill. All sorts of topics find their ways into your mind, forcefully. Try as hard as you can to push them aside, it just won't work.

This is the worst. No ability to take charge of your body system when you know without a question you are dead tired. Your mind just won't stop working. I've been getting this quite often lately, and it always happen during my weeks of staying back at work. It's pure torture. I need to find some ways to knock myself out in bed. Or change jobs.

More Cam Gigandet

From Mrs Phillippe's treasure chest, here's more of Cam Gigandet....

Just can't get enough of Cam...
We've blogged about Cam previously Article 1 & Article 2 . He will soon appear in the new vampire film Twilight, adapated from Stephanie Meyer's novel of the same title. He will again play the villain, after his delicious act as the baddie in Never Back Down.

I could gaze into his droopy eyes all day...

Mrs Phillippe Snaps Back

Being the trans in the closet at work has always been hard for me. My work is in the corporate world you see, unfortunately. Not that most people in the office have not figured out my sexuality yet, I'm sure they would have been talking/speculating/criticizing my personal life/sex preference behind me all this while, but I chose to keep quiet about it. I do not try (how silly it would be for me to) to cover up by telling lies about having GF or liking girls, gloating about straight guy's topics, or pretend to be straight acting too much, I just chose to keep quiet when it comes to personal or sensitive topics. And fair enough, they will never ask about it at work. Like I said, I'm pretty sure they'd figured it out themselves, without having me confessing or they asking. It has been hard like I said, but hey, I've been taking this for like 10 years ar least, so I'm pretty used to it by now.

Although my sexuality has never been topics we discuss at work, but I know I still become a victim of discrimination when it comes to assessing my capabilities in my work. I try my best to prove them wrong, but being effeminate definitely forced me to work twice as hard just to do that. Effeminate as we know has always been viewed as weak or less capable. I still manage to stay OK in this harsh reality of the corporate world, but I do get my moments of discrimination.

Like recently, I was in this meeting where there were two MCPs (male chauvinist pigs) in there. The topic about measuring customer satisfaction came up. When it comes to churning out the results for C-Sat and reporting them to all the bosses, I am the only PIC. They were talking about certain challenges they faced when it came to intepreting the C-Sat results due to some limitations of the way the C-Sat survey was designed. One of the pigs decided to take to the short cut and said "This survey is just not accurate lah, the design is a flaw from the beginning. I say we scrap this stupid survey lah. How lah Mrs Phillippe, you're the owner right, your survey lah, eversince you came lah we have this..." Right at this point I decided I had it to the max. I stopped him and snapped back "Excuse me, hold it right there! I was never the one who 'designed' this survey. I am the end-user of this survey just like everyone else in this room. The whole reason why this survey fell on my lap was because no one in this company has the balls to even own it in the first place. So there was no owner right from the beginning. Just because I have the sense to take responsibility in churning the results does not make me the owner of this survey, let alone any of its limitations!" Right when I said the word 'balls' another woman in the room clapped her hands, obviously she was frustrated with that pig's comments as well. Although the pig said it jokingly, I knew the message was meant to attack me.

Then towards the end of the meeting the topic came up again. Rather than using their brains to think of a solution, the other pig decided to take the same route the 1st pig took and went "Aiyoh, yea lah, how lah, Mrs Phillippe, your survey ah..." Again, Mrs Phillippe will take no more crap, I stopped him and replied "Look, I don't know how else to say this if you cannot even understand simple English. I..AM..NOT..the designer of this survey. I don't know how to communicate with you lah!" And the rest quickly jumped to another topic.

I always hate it when I lose my temper, but sometimes I don't know how else I can face these discriminating, sexist pigs when they challenge my work unfairly. And the sad thing is, I know for a fact many more other effeminate PLUs get discriminated at my workplace. Being one of the management team who sits in the discussion when they decide which staff to promote, I hear with my own ears how they feel reluctant to promote certain staff just because they are outwardly gay or effeminate, despite whatever level of capapbilities they have.
Sad isn't it...

HK After The 80's Diva

I use to follow the music scene in HK during the 80's. It started with Anita Mui. I suppose not one single PLU/trans (who listens to Chinese music during 80's) was not a fan. Then there was Sandy Lam, what a mesmerizing voice. I was never a fan of Sally Yeah, although she was also a diva then. After that it was all about Faye Wong for me. She just became the ultimate trend-setter for Chinese artists then, introducing alternative vocals and tunes, querky and unique fashion senses, absolutely adored her.

Then it all faded. HK's music industry went down the drains for me. Their artists went from bad to worse. 90% of them can't even sing live. Songs were all monotonous. I stopped following their music since then, only holding on to Faye's Mandarin albums which were actually produced in China anyway, not HK.
Then after so many years, finally came Ivana Wong 王菀之. A friend introduced her to me as he knew I would love her similar vocals to Faye. And he was right, I started collecting all Ivana's albums.

What's great about Ivana is, she is a great composer as well. She writes all her songs and also for other artists. She started to gain popularity after singing 'I Am Really Hurt' (我真的受傷了) with Jacky Cheung during his concert. That song was also written by her.

Beyonce - Get Me Bodied (Live Performance)

Everyone who knows me knows how much I love me girl Bee, here's one of my favourite song ever from her, Get Me Bodied. This is a live performance from her Beyonce Experience Tour in L.A. I was lucky enough to witness her concert live in St Louis last year. It was without question the best concert experience in my lifetime. Crowd was crazy, everyone's standing from the beginning till the end. The fact that St Louis had majority blacks made it even more special. They just knew how to move their booties and get on down in the stadium, awesome...

When the song got to the part 'Do the Oh-Oh, Oh-Oh', everyone went "Oh-Oh! Oh-Oh!", when it went 'Stop! Cool off, cool off', everyone fanned themselves like divas, when it went 'Do the old school dance, the old school dance', everyone did the old silly school-dance moves, when it went "Do the Naomi Campbell walk, the Naomi Campbell walk', everyone strutted themselves up & down like nobody's business, and when it went 'Pose for the camera now click, click', everyone posed like they never posed before. Now tell me where in the world can we get that kind of craziness in concerts here in Malaysia, like never!!

Some people asked me whether was it worth it to spend more than a thousand ringgit to fly to St Louis (a detour from my main routes during my US hols trip) just to watch her, my answer would be "I'd do it all over again if I could," and gave them a Beeeeyoncilicious smirk...
